Domaines Grands Montets

You are looking for the best ski area, and your wanderings have led you to wonder about the Grands Montets area. Why is it called “the mythical domain”? And is it practicable other than in winter? All of these questions will be answered on this page.

Les Grands Montets ski area from an altitude of 1,235 meters

In winter, Les Grands Montets is a ski area that extends between 1,235 and 3,300 meters above sea level. The result is trails with an impressive altitude difference, surrounded by glaciers, for absolutely breathtaking landscapes.

The trails extend over three sides of the mountain, the Argentière Glacier, Lognan and the Pendant, which each represent skiing challenges of varying difficulty. Thus, between the village of Lognan and the village of Pendant, you will find some simple slopes that will suit skiers who prefer easy descent to the most challenging slopes. As for the most experienced skiers, they will be able to climb to the highest point of Grands Montets and risk themselves on the Point de Vue slopes, on the Rognons glacier, which goes down to the Argentière glacier, and on the Pylones, which pass on both sides of the Col des Rachasses.

Practical winter information

The area is accessible from Chamonix, you just need to follow the road to Argentière and then take a cable car or cable car that will take you up to the foot of the slopes, or even directly to the top of some simple slopes.

Open from December 8 to 1Er May, with a full period between February 3 and 1Er May and a period under the condition of sufficient snow from 8 to 22 December, you can take advantage of daily rates for Grands Montets ranging from 29.50 to 36.50€ depending on your desire to use the cable car or the slopes to go down to Argentière. A family package for two adults and two young people is possible, at €113.10, and offers the possibility for up to 3 additional children from the same family to get the free return trip.

Magnificent settings under the mountain sun

The Grands Montets ski area is also accessible in summer! With a view of the Drus, the Aiguilles Rouges and the Mont Blanc, you can be sure of being able to do exceptional hiking there. You will be able to observe the largest glaciers in Europe very closely, and will certainly leave satisfied with your excursions.

The little extra? A part of the mountain remains a ski area maintained, even in the middle of summer! So discover the snow garden, at the top of the Grands Montets cable car, and enjoy winter sports in the middle of summer.

Practical summer information

Once again, the domain is accessible from Argentière, a town adjacent to Chamonix, via a cable car that takes you directly to Lognan. From there you will find several hiking routes, or a second cable car that will take you directly to the summit of Grands Montets, at the foot of the Aiguille Verte, a summit that culminates at 4,121 meters.

The hiking area is open from June 16 to September 9, subject to favorable weather conditions. The prices charged are quite similar to those in winter, a return trip by cable car at €36.50 and a family package at €113.10 for two adults and two children, and up to three free entries for three additional children in the same family. It's free for children under 5.
