In Chamonix, there is no shortage of summer activities and offer the most sporty visitors as well as families with young children something to enjoy an unforgettable nature break.

Summer vacation in the Alps

Chamonix: the ideal destination for summer vacation in the Alps

Enjoying a privileged location in the heart of Chamonix, our hotel Le Refuge des Aiglons is the ideal base for conquering the summits in summer and winter. The Mont-Blanc, one of the most legendary mountain peaks in the world, forms a breathtaking backdrop and attracts a number of mountaineers eager for wide open spaces and thrills. Among the other wonders to discover during your summer vacation in the Alps, beautiful natural sites await you. Here are a few examples:

The lakes of Chamonix

Accessible between the beginning of June and the end of October on foot or by cable car, an unusual body of ice water is located at the foot of Mont-Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi: the Lac Bleu. Nestled at an altitude of 2299 meters, this superb high-altitude lake is a three-hour walk from the Refuge des Aiglons, the ultimate reward for a walk rich in discoveries and breathtaking panoramas.

The Lac Blanc also offers incredible views from the Aiguilles Rouges nature reserve. Ideal for a family hike, the path to get there is accessible even to young walkers from the age of 8-10.

L'Aiguille du Midi

Culminating at 3842 meters, theAiguille du Midi offers a breathtaking view of the entire valley. And, for an even more spectacular experience, the Step into the Void is undoubtedly one of the most essential attractions during summer vacation in the Alps. Considered to be the highest in Europe, it also represents an immense technological achievement. Step into the glass cabin suspended in the void to admire the raw nature that surrounds it... if you dare!

The Sea of Ice

The Mer de Glace is also one of the legendary sites that you will have the pleasure of seeing in Chamonix. This glacial formation, with an area of 40 km² and a thickness of 300m, makes it the largest glacier in metropolitan France. In its depths, it houses a very unusual place: the Ice Cave. Be careful, however, because while you can visit the Mer de Glace in summer, the cave, for its part, closes from 30 April.

Unforgettable activities for your summer vacation in the Alps

While the Chamonix Valley is famous for its beautiful sites, the activities it offers are no less exciting. In summer, winter sports give way to other outdoor pleasures to enjoy alone, in pairs, with family or friends.

Mountain biking

Whether you like pleasant and easy rides or if you are passionate about extreme mountain biking, the Chamonix mountain bike routes will have something to satisfy you. Numerous trails accessible from the Refuge des Aiglons await you. And, in the Petit Balcon Nord and Sud sector, slightly more technical itineraries — but quite practical — will offer you a breathtaking view of the valley. For stronger sensations, take the cable car in the direction of Plaine du Prarion or reach Planpraz via the Brévent cable car. Get ready to be blown away!

The golf

Not far from the Refuge des Aiglons, the Chamonix golf is undoubtedly one of the favorite places for those who choose to spend their summer vacation in the Alps. The 18-hole course, nestled between Mont-Blanc and the Aiguilles Rouges mountains, offers a magical show that is likely to distract you from your game!

Fans of this sport can also visit the Grand-Bornant golf course, the Flaine-Les Carroz golf course, or the Arcs 1800 golf course.

White water rafting

An ideal activity to freshen up during your summer vacation in the Alps, the rafting is for thrill seekers only! Beginners can go to the Arve, between Passy and Sallanches. If, on the other hand, it is a real rush of adrenaline that you are looking for, the most beautiful navigable river in Europe, the Dora Baltea, awaits you. Located on the Italian side, it promises you an extraordinary experience.

Chamonix city center

Charming small mountain town, Chamonix is an ideal destination for those who like to stroll in an authentic setting with a preserved architectural heritage. And, under the calm and bucolic exterior of its pretty church and its local shops, the city hides a permanent dynamism! Restaurants, tea rooms, bars and nightclubs brighten up the area all year round. The latter also regularly hosts festivals, shows and other highly anticipated events.

The Deep Nature Spa at the Refuge des Aiglons

Our Deep Nature Spa is open to our residents looking for a short wellness break during their summer vacation in the Alps. Enjoy our swimming pool and its breathtaking view of Mont-Blanc, a hydrotherapy session, a facial or body treatment or a massage to pamper your muscles after exercise.

All year round, the mountain offers you the best of itself!
