Sled dogs adapt very easily to sub-zero temperatures: their skin temperature is around 0°C on the muzzle and paws, compared with 37°C for lapdogs. As a result, they don't expend too much heat and the snow doesn't melt on their paws, considerably reducing the risk of frostbite.
