How do I get to the Mer de Glace?

Chamonix's Mer de Glace is located in the Montenvers valley. To get there, you need to take the little Montenvers train, which operates every day of the year, summer and winter. This traditional red railway has been running since 1908 and remains the only way to reach the site.

To take the little train, you need to go to the town of Chamonix. You can also stay at the Refuge des Aiglons de Chamonix, close to the resort. The funicular then takes you up the Aiguilles de Chamonix to 1913m. A round trip from Chamonix to Montenvers costs €32.50 for an adult and €27.90 for a child or senior citizen. Family packages and group benefits are also available.
