Summer vacations in the Alps

Chamonix: the ideal destination for summer vacations in the Alps

Enjoying a privileged location in the heart of Chamonix, our hotel Le Refuge des Aiglons is the ideal base from which to conquer the summits in summer and winter alike. Mont Blanc, one of the world's most legendary mountain peaks, forms a breathtaking backdrop and attracts many mountaineers eager for wide-open spaces and thrills. Other wonders to discover during your summer vacation in the Alps include a number of natural beauty spots. Here are just a few examples:

The Chamonix lakes

Accessible between early June and late October on foot or by cable car, an unusual stretch of icy water stands at the foot of Mont-Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi: Lac Bleu. Nestled at an altitude of 2299 metres, this superb high-altitude lake is a three-hour walk from the Refuge des Aiglons, the ultimate reward for a walk rich in discovery and breathtaking panoramas.

Lac Blanc also offers incredible views from the Aiguilles Rouges nature reserve. Ideal for a family hike, the path to the lake is accessible even to young walkers aged 8-10 and over.

The Aiguille du Midi

Culminating at 3842 metres, theAiguille du Midi offers breathtaking views over the entire valley. And, for an even more spectacular experience, the Pas dans le Vide is undoubtedly one of the must-see attractions on a summer vacation in the Alps. Considered to be the highest in Europe, it also represents an immense technological feat. Step into the glass cabin suspended in the void to admire the raw nature that surrounds it... if you dare!

La Mer de Glace

The Mer de Glace is another of the legendary sites you'll have the pleasure of seeing in Chamonix. This glacial formation covers an area of 40km² and is 300m thick, making it the largest glacier in mainland France. In its depths, it shelters a most unusual place: the Grotte de Glace. Beware, however, because while you can visit the Mer de Glace in summer, the Grotte de Glace closes from April 30.

Unforgettable activities for your summer vacation in the Alps

While the Chamonix Valley is famous for its breathtaking scenery, the activities it offers are no less exciting. In summer, winter sports give way to other outdoor pleasures to be enjoyed alone, in pairs, with family or friends.

Mountain biking

Whether you're a fan of leisurely rides or extreme mountain biking, Chamonix's mountain bike trails have something for everyone. Numerous trails accessible from the Refuge des Aiglons await you. And in the Petit Balcon Nord and Sud areas, slightly more technical - but still very rideable - itineraries offer breathtaking views over the valley. For even more thrills, take the gondola to the Plaine du Prarion or the Brévent gondola to Planpraz. Prepare to be amazed!

The golf course

Not far from the Refuge des Aiglons, the Chamonix golf course is undoubtedly one of the favorites of those who choose to spend their summer vacations in the Alps. The 18-hole course, nestled between Mont-Blanc and the Aiguilles Rouges massif, offers a fairytale spectacle that's sure to distract you from your game!

Fans of this sport can also visit the Golf du Grand-Bornant, Flaine-Les Carroz and Les Arcs 1800.

White-water rafting

Rafting is the perfect way to cool off during your summer vacations in the Alps, but it's for thrill-seekers only! Beginners can take to the river Arve, between Passy and Sallanches. If, on the other hand, you're looking for a real adrenalin rush, Europe's most beautiful navigable river, the Dora Baltea, is just right for you. Located on the Italian side of the river, it promises an experience like no other.

Downtown Chamonix

A charming little mountain town, Chamonix is an ideal destination for those who like to stroll through an authentic setting with a well-preserved architectural heritage. And beneath the calm, bucolic exterior of its pretty church and local stores, the town conceals a permanent dynamism! Restaurants, tearooms, bars and discos brighten up the region all year round. It also regularly hosts festivals, shows and other eagerly-awaited events.

The Refuge des Aiglons Deep Nature Spa

Our Deep Nature Spa is open to residents looking for a little wellness break during their summer vacations in the Alps. Enjoy our swimming pool with its breathtaking view of Mont Blanc, a hydrotherapy session, a facial or body treatment, or a massage to pamper your muscles after exercise.

All year round, the mountains offer you the best of themselves!
