Chamonix: will the ski resorts be opening soon?

Those who had hoped to be able to enjoy the ski resorts this Christmas have already been disappointed by the government's announcements. Today, despite the February vacations that gave hope to winter sports enthusiasts, the ski lifts are still closed until further notice. But that doesn't mean we'll have to do without the mountains altogether! In Chamonix, even without theski resorts open, you can still take part in a huge number of activities that will delight young and old alike.

The health situation linked to Covid-19 is preventing French ski resorts from operating normally. The French Prime Minister has announced that "all ski lifts and public facilities are closed to the public" until further notice. This means that downhill skiing is out of the question. Restaurants, bars, clubs and vacation villages are also affected by this closure. Althoughthe opening of the Chamonix 2020-2021 resorts is in jeopardy, mountain professionals are nevertheless offering a wide range of activities for unforgettable vacations.

 

Chamonix openings in 2020-2021 : what to do in the mountains this year?

Fortunately, downhill skiing isn't the only activity you can enjoy in the Alps. Even whenthe ski resorts aren'topen, you can still enjoy the snow!

Private or small group lessons (maximum 5 people), for example, are a great alternative, especially for beginners. You'll be able to discover the joys of skiing or snowboarding, whatever your level or age. Children aged 5 to 7 will love the teddy bear lessons on offer in Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. And for children under 4, piou-piou ski lessons are also available.

Hiking enthusiasts won't have to wait for a potential opening in Chamonix in 2020 2021 to indulge their passion either. Snowshoe outings of varying degrees of difficulty are organized daily by local guides, who welcome visitors on their own, as couples or in small groups.

And don't miss out on tobogganing, snooc touring, cross-country skiing or a ride on an electric scooter on snow! Domaine des Planards, for example, is the ideal place to enjoy these unforgettable activities with your family.
