Chamonix ski area is one of the best in the world. Located between Lyon, Geneva and Turin, next to the Mont Blanc, the highest peak in occidental Europe, attracting nearly 30000 people per year wanting to climb it through two well-known routes, the Normal Gouter Hut route and the Cosmique route: the 3 Mont Blanc traverse, the second one less popular than the first, also because it needs a more technical ability.

The city is at the centre of the Chamonix valley. Here the Chamonix ski area:

  • Brévent Flégère Ski area, located in Chamonix and accessible in two ways, by the centre of the city or by Les Praz, a locality situated at 3 km from the city centre. The ski area includes 5 rails and it’s specially designed for all entry-level skiers, in fact its slopes are always full of instructors. Open from 09/12 to 15/12 and from 8.45 AM to 4.50 PM;
  • Les Houches ski area is extended from an altitude of 950m to 1900m, including 55 km of slopes inside the forests. The particularity of this area is the presence of 120 snow maker machines that assure artificial snow coverage, and then the possibility of having playgrounds and photo albums for free. Open from 23/12 to 06/04, 8.45 AM to 5 PM;
  • Le Tour/Vallorcine/Balme is a ski slope particularly suitable for beginners or children, and it includes 19 ski pistes, among which 1 black, 7 reds and 11 blues. Open from 09/12 to 15/04, 9.00 AM (first ascent) to 4:15 PM in the period 9/12-09/02 and from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM in the period 10/02 to 15/04.
