Discover Chamonix Mountain Biking Trails

back to the news

While there is no denying that Chamonix is an exceptional spot for extreme sports enthusiasts, Chamonix mountain biking trails also offer some wonderful options for less competent riders, including children. Whether you enjoy very challenging routes and an all-day experience or prefer to ride for a couple of hours with the whole family, to tackle the arduous climb to the top or to take the lift access to favor the downhills, you won’t be disappointed!

Chamonix Mountain Biking Routes for Beginners

There is no shortage of well-maintained paths with little to no elevation for those who simply want to go on a leisurely ride with the kids. If you’re staying at the Refuge des Aiglons in Chamonix, you could ride your bikes straight into town and make your way to the Bois du Bouchet and Les Bois areas for some of the easiest Chamonix mountain biking options available. Which doesn’t mean you’ll be bored! You could ride in the forest, along the river, through picturesque villages or attempt a bit of uphill cycling by heading to the Petit Balcon Nord or Sud. These trails may be a little more technical, but they are well worth it and never completely impossible to navigate even if it means hopping off for just a moment.

Intermediate Mountain Biking Trails in Chamonix

More advanced riders could rent a mountain bike in Chamonix and explore Les Houches and Le Tour. While you will certainly meet a few hikers there, these areas are dedicated to mountain bikers and offer a less crowded experience.

Le Tour’s lush green hill is the perfect vantage point to admire the surroundings including the valley below and the breathtaking Mont Blanc! If you don’t want to take it too far, you can stay on the lovely Chamonix downhill mountain biking green route that goes back down towards the village once you get to the mid-station. If you’re ready for more, a blue track starts at the top of the chairlift.

Les Houches is more suitable for slightly more advanced bikers, who will appreciate the recently cleared area which can be accessed from the top of Prarion and offers a nice mix of possibilities ranging from blue to red. The Bellevue cable car leads to former trails that, while they still exist, are no longer maintained. If you know your way or have a guide with you, they are another great option.

Advanced Chamonix Mountain Biking Trails

Seasoned mountain bikers are in for a treat! Chamonix’s advanced trails are perfect for those who like to ride off the beaten track and wonder at gorgeous sceneries. Les Grands Montets, for instance, is something to behold! At the very top, the Glacier d’Argentière, which can be reached by cable car, is simply spectacular. From some of Chamonix’s most famous peaks, such as the Droites, the Aiguille Verte and the Drus, you can relish in many great descents or make your way to the Petit Balcon Nord, back to Chamonix.

Chamonix mountain biking is a great summer activity for vacationers of all ages! Be sure to ask the staff at Le Refuge des Aiglons for the best activities to enjoy on a family or friends getaway in Chamonix. It’s the perfect destination for all lovers of the outdoors and there truly is something there for everyone, regardless of the season. From a sporty holiday break to a rejuvenating and relaxing spa retreat or a mix of both, all the ingredients are there for a memorable stay. Even foodies will be sure to find something they love, as the place is bursting with traditional and trendy restaurants for you to sample an exciting array of dishes.
